Animal Painting - Class Description

Artwork by Lennie Jo Barnes

Level: 1, Age Requirements: All, Format: Classroom, Prerequisites: Animal Drawing preferred.

The student will learn how to paint animals in acrylic. Each student will go at his/her own pace. They will need the same package of paints and brushes purchased through the school as for regular acrylic classes…plus a #6 round brush and a rigor brush.

To learn to find shape, colors, and paint fur or feathers. They will learn a new style and information about painting animals and create new colors.

The school will provide easels but it is better to have your own. We have put together a paint kit for purchase. Please purchase your own #6 round brush and a rigor brush.  Bring your own stretched canvas. 16 X 20 is average for students.

You may want to purchase a palette box. These can be taken home and stored in your refrigerator or freezer in order to save paint. They come will liners that are easily tossed.

Each student will produce at least one painting of an animal or bird of their choice which will be submitted into our Art Exhibit at the end of the term. Each painting must be framed by the student.

Check schedule to determine time of class. Students are responsible for showing up on time and making work up outside of class.

Students will not be graded (unless in college); however, they will be evaluated by their ability to follow directions and complete the work required.  Each student is responsible for cleaning up his or her area.

To be successful in this class, students need to produce at least one animal painting by the end of the term. But most importantly, to succeed in this class, the student must have fun!
